The Howarth Timber Group has revealed its aims to raise £5,000 for its charity of the year, Cancer Research UK, from its annual fundraising trek.

The yearly event, which has been going since 2013, will see almost 50 Howarth employees, customers and suppliers tackle a gruelling 20-mile walk around Ullswater; the Lake District’s second largest lake, from 20– 22 September 2019.

Set to be a poignant year for Howarth, the company renewed Cancer Research UK as its charity of the year after the death of Zsu Graves, a much-valued colleague from the firm’s accounts team at the New Holland site.

Alistair Howarth, internal sales at Howarth Timber Group, says: “We’re now into our 6th year of undertaking charity challenges but this year will be like no other as we remember and celebrate the life of Zsu who sadly lost her battle with cancer earlier this year,

“As a company, we wish to support everyone taking part and maximise the amount raised. That is why our Joint Chairman Nicholas Howarth has decided that all Howarth Timber Group employees, will have the cost of the weekend paid for by the business.”

Howarth employees will continue to raise funds for Cancer Research UK throughout 2019 with a range of fundraising initiatives such as Sport Shirt Friday, and a darts competition in the pipeline.
