The Derby branch of Howarth Timber & Building Supplies has made a donation of oak sleepers to a local school to build and develop their own vegetable patch.

Meadow Farm Community Primary School had put out a request to local businesses for resources to improve both the school and learning experience of its pupils.

Mrs Eyre, Headteacher at Meadow Farm Community Primary School, said: “As a school, we are always looking for ways to foster community engagement with our local area. Our Office Manager, Mrs Boyer, contacted local businesses, on the school’s behalf, to see if they would be willing to get involved with the school, whether through resources or time donation.

“We were thrilled when Howarth agreed to donate oak sleepers so that we could build a vegetable patch and teach the children about where the food on their plate comes from.”

Talsa Middleton, Derby Branch Manager, added: “When the request came in, we were more than happy to help out. As a company, we often support community projects and knowing that the oak sleepers and new vegetable patch will be used for years to come is certainly good to know. We wish all the children luck in growing their new vegetables.”

Mr Boyer, a volunteer, kindly donated his time to build the fruit and vegetable beds, whilst B&Q also donated materials, including soil and flowers, to help get the project off the ground.
