Rupert Green, Chairman of Covers Timber & Builders Merchants, will be heading to parliament on 16th July after the company was nominated as Chichester’s Constituency Responsible Business Champion 2019.

The accolade is part of the APCRG’s Responsible Business Scheme, which is organised by the All-Party Parliamentary Corporate Responsibility Group. It was set up to celebrate the achievements of local companies operating responsibly in MPs’ constituencies.

Covers was nominated by Gillian Keegan, who has been MP for Chichester since the 2017 general election.

Green will attend a special reception hosted at parliament on 16 July to celebrate the company’s nomination and to be presented with a certificate.

He said: “We are delighted to have been nominated for this award. We are proud of the work we undertake to be a responsible business that is mindful of our community and surroundings.

“This includes everything from using electric forklifts and solar panels, active support for our local hospices, encouraging staff participation in local charities, to our apprenticeship schemes and educational programmes with colleges and universities.”

Every company nominated will also be considered for the National Responsible Business Champion 2019, which will be announced by the Corporate Responsibility Minister, Kelly Tolhurst, during the July reception.

Gillian Keegan MP added: “Covers is a brilliant local business which does a huge amount for our local community and the environment.

“The business truly fulfils the criteria for the nomination across a range of areas.

“I’m looking forward to seeing them at the Parliamentary reception on 16 July and wish them the best of luck in the national competition.”
