David Young, managing director of Bradfords Building Supplies, has raised over £1,000 for Macmillan by taking part in a ‘Brave the Shave’ headshave on 3 April.

Mr Young bravely volunteered to lose his locks to kick start the builders’ merchants pledge to raise over £200,000 for Macmillan in two years. The shave was carried out by his daughters Emily and Mollie.

Mr Young said: “Bradfords is delighted to have Macmillan as its nominated charity of the year. It’s a charity that provides an invaluable service to its patients and their families. We have set ourselves the ambitious target of raising £200k in two years, and I wanted to personally get involved and give our company wide fundraising a kick start. I would like to thank all of our customers, staff and suppliers who have sponsored me to date.”

Genevieve Drinkwater, fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, added: “It was fantastic to see the managing director of Bradfords leading the way at the launch of its charity partnership with us! It was great fun to watch his daughter’s shave his head and a donation from the youngest one at the end was very touching. The whole company have embraced the start of their fundraising and I’m excited to see what the next two years bring. Thank you Bradfords for pledging to change the lives of people affected by cancer.”
