The team at NMBS, the UK's largest buying society for independent builders', timber, plumbing and heating, and hardware merchants, are undertaking an epic bike ride in aid of charity.

The ride is being dubbed the NMBS Le Jog Challenge and takes its name from an acronym of Land's End to John O'Groats.

It will see the NMBS team collectively cycle a minimum of 837 miles – the same distance that separates these two famous UK landmarks.

The challenge is open to staff from all areas of the business, with volunteers set to rack up the miles before and after work as well as in their lunch hours using an exercise bike at NMBS' Leicester head offices.

The team is aiming to complete the challenge by 23 December, with each rider taking turns in the saddle in 15-minute slots.

NMBS is staging the Le Jog challenge to raise funds for a number of worthwhile causes. This includes CRASH, Cancer Research UK, Brain Tumour Research, Alzheimer's Research and Diabetes UK.

The society wanted the ultimate recipients of any sponsorship raised to include one industry charity and a selection of other charities with particular significance to members of the NMBS team.

Individuals and organisations looking to pledge their own support can do so by visiting the NMBS Le Jog Challenge fundraising page uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/NMBSLeJogChallenge.

Chris Hayward, managing director at NMBS, said: "As a high-profile organisation at the heart of the independent merchanting sector, NMBS strives to lead by example in a range of relevant areas – from marketing and leadership to corporate social responsibility. The NMBS Le Jog Challenge will be a great way of raising money for a variety of charities as well as an effective and I'm sure enjoyable teambuilding exercise.

"I'd like to wish all those who decide to take part the very best of luck."
