Ibstock Brick will increase its capacity to produce an additional 100m bricks a year thanks to a major project delivered by G F Tomlinson.

Three new buildings are being built at the brick manufacturer’s Leicestershire site including a 18,000 sq m production building, a 3,600 sq m clay preparation building and a smaller building for feeding quarry materials into production.

Extensive external works will also be completed, reaching across 50,000 sq m to accommodate stockyards, lorry parks and roadways, as part of the multi-million pound development.

Colin Richardson, group development director for Ibstock Brick, said: “G F Tomlinson’s reputation for high-quality construction and its ability to manage a site in a sustainable manner alongside our own team was key to our decision to select them to work with us on this project.

“This new facility will not only help us to grow our business, but also means that we achieve our vision to create the world’s most modern brick factory.

“We work hard to set the industry standard for quality, energy and sustainability and this project, once complete will have a positive impact on the local economy and support growth in construction across the UK.”

The project is already generating benefits for the area with G F Tomlinson using local sub-contractors and suppliers in the delivery of this important development. To date, all £7.1m of supply chain orders have been placed with companies located within Leicester, Nottingham and Derby.

Andy Sewards, managing director for G F Tomlinson, added: “We are delighted to be part of this important new development with Ibstock Brick. This is another example of a major project, which highlights our expertise in delivering large innovative developments in a sustainable manner.

“As Midlands-based building contractors we pride ourselves on maximising benefits to the local economy through local spend, training opportunities, apprenticeships and community engagement, and this project is already making a significant impact within Leicestershire.

“The work is integral to Ibstock’s ongoing growth and ever increasing demand for high-quality building materials as construction works and investment in the built environment grows. We’re proud to be working on a project that will see our team of expert builders using materials produced at this factory.”

The project consists of a new 18,000 sq m production facility, as well as a 3,600 sq m clay preparation building, and is due to be in operation from winter 2017.
