Strategic partnership for circular economy pallets will deliver benefits for construction.
The transportation of building materials across Ireland is set to become greener thanks to a partnership between CJ Sheeran and The Pallet LOOP – the circular economy pallet reuse scheme transforming how products are delivered across the construction industry.
Under the terms of a strategic deal, CJ Sheeran, Ireland’s leading timber pallet manufacturer and recycler, will collect The Pallet LOOP’s distinctive green pallets from building sites and merchants across Ireland, recovering them for reuse.
CJ Sheeran will also manufacture LOOP pallets – under licence – for any building material manufacturers in Ireland looking for a greener way of moving materials.
Every year, the construction industry in Ireland uses several million pallets – many of which are skipped or scrapped after just one use. The Pallet LOOP (part of BSW Group) provides an alternative approach that’s greener, leaner, safer and smarter – and ensures pallets are reused rather than discarded after a single use.
As well as reducing waste and cutting carbon, The Pallet LOOP has major financial benefits with pallet returns incentivised. The Pallet LOOP offers a PayBack of up to €4 / £4 for every green pallet recovered for reuse from registered return partners. This comes on top of the savings companies can make from not putting pallets in skips.
Paul Lewis, Founder and MD of The Pallet LOOP, said: “The launch of The Pallet LOOP in Ireland is aligned with the country’s climate action goals and the need to reduce waste using circular economy practices. We are grateful to CJ Sheeran for partnering with us to launch LOOP in Ireland.
"The scheme is already delivering huge benefits across England, Wales and Scotland. Multiple building material manufacturers are now using our pallets to transport their products including British Gypsum, Isover, Superglass and wienerberger.
"To date we’ve issued around 800,000 green reusable pallets and are now working hard to raise awareness of our scheme and collect them back so they can be used again. If you are based in Ireland and receive building materials on pallets, now is the time to get registered for Pallet LOOP returns via CJ Sheeran.”
Fergal Moran, Business Development Director at CJ Sheeran, added: “We are proud to partner with The Pallet LOOP to bring this sustainable, circular solution to the construction industry in Ireland. We are an award-winning business, recognised for our quality and sustainability, and this collaboration is a powerful step towards reducing pallet waste in construction, reducing unnecessary costs and promoting more environmentally friendly practices.”
As the first principal contractor in Ireland to adopt this initiative, BAM welcomed the launch of The Pallet LOOP in Ireland. Martin O’Brien, Head of Purchasing, at BAM Ireland, said: “At BAM, sustainability is at the core of our operations. We are excited to welcome the launch of The Pallet LOOP in Ireland through CJ Sheeran. We've already signed up for collections and have sent back our first batch of pallets.
"As one of Ireland's leading multinational construction companies, responsible for many of the country's flagship infrastructure and building projects, this initiative marks a significant step forward in reducing waste and promoting the circular economy.
"By adopting a more sustainable approach to pallet reuse and recycling, we aim to drive positive change across the construction industry and support our commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions. We eagerly anticipate the positive environmental impact this partnership will bring.”
CJ Sheeran has 13 manufacturing sites across Ireland (including its sawmill) and is strategically headquartered at the intersection of the M7, M8 & M9 – giving it easier access to all areas of Ireland.
