NEWTON-LE-WILLOWS: Tool and equipment hire firm Speedy Hire is to open the latest of its new breed of superstores in Manchester.

The move is part of a restructuring of its chain of tool hire outlets to create a number of larger superstores that it says will improve customer service, product availability and operational efficiency to drive margin growth.

Speedy has already opened superstores in Leeds, Bristol, Stoke and Nottingham. The fifth is in Ardwick. Speedy was advised on the deal by a team at law firm Cobbetts, led by partner Naveen Gupta. He said: "The demand for warehouse space has been steadily increasing since the beginning of 2011 and we are very happy to have been involved in yet another boost to the market in Manchester."

Speedy operates more than 300 depots, superstores and on-site facilities in Britain, Ireland and in the Middle East. The business was hit hard by the credit crunch in 2008, but returned to profit in 2011 after a cost-cutting programme that saw it shed almost a third of its staff and sites.
