The 23rd ceremony saw 19 individual winners crowned as the best in the industry were rewarded for 12 months of hard work.

The Builders’ Merchants Awards once again proved a fitting finale to the calendar year as it recognised and celebrated excellence by merchants and the people who work for them.

The longest running awards ceremony in the builders’ merchant sector celebrated its 23rd anniversary at the magnificent Park Plaza in Westminster.

This year’s lunch, held on Friday 29 November, was hosted by comedian legend, actor and author Jo Brand.

For more than two decades, the Builders' Merchants Awards has offered the perfect opportunity to acknowledge the amazing people, teams, projects and innovations within the sector.

Twenty-four awards were announced to shine the spotlight on every part of the sector, whether it is for groundbreaking marketing initiatives or all-encompassing training courses, community schemes that prove a lifeline to local companies, or businesses that ensure diversity and inclusion is the future of the industry.

The sell-out event produced 19 different winners as more of the industry was recognised than in the previous couple of years when two busineses hoovered up a quartet of awards each.

The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Christopher Bence, Executive Chairman of builders’ merchant George Bence & Sons (Cheltenham). His work in the family business, the local community and for charity, as well as his support of national buying groups such as Fortis and NMBS, over seven decades, prompted a standing ovation from the 700 plus in the audience.

Thanks to the generosity of all attendees, thousands of pounds was raised for Lighthouse the construction industry charity, that provides emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to the construction community and their families.

The 24th Builders' Merchants Awards will be at the Park Plaza on Friday 28 November 2025.
