Brand identity and standards of service have been key factors in the growth of a Northamptonshire based specialist tiling merchant, which has now added Marmox’s renowned Multiboard tilebacker board to its product catalogue as it continues to target even greater market reach.
PTT Group – also known as Pro Tiler Tools – was established in 2008 by Andy and Wendy Bucknall, who had identified a gap in the market for a reliable tiling supplier as an adjunct to their already successful contracting business. By 2017 they had outgrown their original premises in Blisworth and moved their operation to a larger unit, the other side of Blisworth. The business continued to grow, when in 2020, they moved into three adjoining industrial units in Mallards Close, Earls Barton near Northampton.
Now with both of the couple’s sons involved as directors of the business and employing more than 30 staff altogether, PTT approached Kent based Marmox at the start of 2021 to ensure its customers have access to multipurpose XPS insulation boards - for a market base that covers not just the whole of the UK, but also international buyers.
The Supply Chain Manager for PTT, James Thatcher, comments: “After moving our warehouse and offices to a larger unit in 2017, we found the need to further increase our warehouse and office facilities just three years later due to rapid company growth. Since the move to Earls Barton, we continue to grow further, despite the impacts of the pandemic. Most of our transactions are placed online, while customers can also Click & Collect.
While we already stocked other tile backer boards, we were getting requests from customers for the Marmox Multiboard, which offers a variety of benefits including insulation and being an ideal stable substrate for tiling while also fitting in neatly as a medium priced option. We also stock Marmox’s 360 adhesive, jointing tapes and special fixing washers as a complete package.”
Marmox Multiboards are manufactured from extruded polystyrene or XPS and offer a range of positive physical characteristics, including good thermal insulation and being fully waterproof: with the polymer modified concrete coating to both faces providing an ideal key for tiling or rendering. They are both light to handle and easy to cut, while still being able to sustain substantial loadings if required, including as part of a floor build-up.
Looking to the future, James Thatcher added: “We are very optimistic about the way ahead, winning a lot of business because tilers and other tradespeople are attracted to the brand and the level of service we provide. Orders are normally delivered within one to three working days but customers can upgrade to a next working day delivery for a small extra fee.”
