The partnership will include Mannok planting a tree for every attendee at the awards ceremony (approximately 750) to help offset the event’s carbon footprint.

Mannok has agreed to become a Sustainability Partner for this year’s Builders’ Merchants Awards which will take place on Friday 29 November.

The partnership will include Mannok planting a tree for every attendee at the awards ceremony (approximately 750) to help offset the event’s carbon footprint.

Tim Wood, BMN Editor, and Ellen Walton, BMN Commercial Manager, travelled to Mannok’s base on the Fermanagh / Cavan border on Monday 14 October to kickstart the tree planting project.

Wood said: "It was a fantastic opportunity to see first hand the work Mannok is doing to reduce its carbon footprint. Ellen and I were blessed that the sun was shining and not pouring with rain as it was when we left England. We both felt honoured to add our individual trees to the 20,000 plus already in the ground."

Sustainability sits at the heart of everything for Mannok and upholding the principles of sustainability throughout every part of the business is fundamental to everything it does.

2022 saw the launch of Mannok 2030 Vision, the sustainability strategy that roadmaps the progress the company will make towards a carbon-zero future up to the end of the decade while paving the way for net-zero emissions by no later than 2050.

Mannok has a significant tree-planting programme in place with 20,400 trees already planted on its grounds as it aims to reduce its carbon footprint.

Mannok Sales & Marketing Director GB, Lee Gillman, said: “Mannok is delighted to be a Sustainability Partner for the Builders’ Merchants Awards. Sustainability is the key priority for Mannok and with the Builders’ Merchants Awards continuing on its sustainability journey this was a partnership which aligned with both of our sustainability visions.”

Lucyanne Matthews, Associate Publisher of BMN, said: “This year will be our most sustainable awards to date. We moved to wooden trophies last year, with a tree planted for each one handed out, so this is one further step on our sustainability journey. We are also working with Trace by Isla – a definitive carbon measurement platform for events – to capture as much data on our carbon footprint.

“Award ceremonies are notoriously bad for the environment, and we want to do everything we possibly can – as this wonderful industry is showing on a daily basis – to be more thoughtful about our environmental impact.”
