MKM’s Sheffield North branch has announced a new sponsorship deal with Sheffield FC, the oldest recognised active football club in the world.
Kicking off for the 22/23 season, the deal sees branding from the UK’s leading independent builder’s merchant featured throughout Sheffield FC’s stadium on matchday scoreboards and pitch-side advertising.
Phil Jones, Branch Director at MKM Sheffield North, said: “As a local independent business, supporting the community that we serve is important to us.
“That’s why we are delighted to announce this exciting partnership with Sheffield FC – a fantastic grassroots sports club that is at the heart of the community and does so much for the area. It’s a football club that cares about the neighborhood and its fans, as we do our customers, meaning our values are closely aligned.”
Sheffield FC is not just an important club in South Yorkshire, it’s also recognised by FIFA as the oldest existing club still playing football in the world. This means the club attracts fans from as far afield as South America, Australia and Asia that regularly flock to watch the side. And over the years, Sheffield FC has strengthened its community roots as well, promoting football beyond the recognised men’s team, with a women’s side, disability team and walking football activities.
Richard Tims, Chairman of Sheffield FC, commented: “As the oldest recognised football club in the world, we are seeking to make the game as welcoming as possible to everyone. That’s why equality, inclusion and community are so important to us, as a chance to give back to the community that has supported us for more than 160 years.
“Our fantastic new sponsorship deal with MKM Sheffield North helps us on this journey and we’re happy to have a business with similar values on board.”
The new deal is the latest of MKM’s community-driven endevours, with the nationwide merchant having been a part of more than 100 partnerships across the UK, from helping fund local grassroots sports teams to sponsoring the MKM Stadium in Hull.
“We’ve sponsored local schools and sports teams in the past and it has always been so rewarding, both for the business and for our employees. This partnership with Sheffield FC is another example of the importance we place on community and we are looking forward to building on this moving forward,” continued Phil Jones.
“Our investment in Sheffield FC helps them provide activies for many sections of the community, including the mens, womens, kids and disability teams. This is fantastic and it really aligns with our ethos both as an independent branch, and MKM as a whole.”
Established in 1857, Sheffield FC plays its games in the Northern Premier League and is one of only two clubs to ever receive the FIFA Order of Merit, alongside European giants, Real Madrid.
