The long-established, Shropshire-based JC Dyke Supplies has announced it is closing on 23 May via social media.

J C Dyke Supplies was incorporated on 4 April 1996, and has been supplying building and D.I.Y customers in the English/Welsh border towns, Shropshire and the West Midlands.

Last week, the business made the announcement of its closure on Facebook, with a laconic "Well this is it!! Closing down sale starts Monday 8.00am."

The Facebook post consists of an image with the following statement embedded in it: “The closing down sale will start on 31st March until close 23rd May.

“Throughout April and May, we will be implementing a discounting process providing fantastic opportunities to take advantage of some incredible prices.”

The post continued: “I would like to thank all of our customers over the years for their support and friendship. Also, the staff who have been second to none.”

The business, which operates from one branch in Oswestry, has 12 employees and is owned by John Dyke and his wife Beverley.

Unaudited accounts for 2024, published on Companies House, do not record the business' turnover, but show assets of £2.62 million.

One of several saddened customers reacting to the news summarised the feelings of others by saying: "absolutely gutted you are closing. Over many years I have completed many a diy project with supplies from J C Dyke Supplies. Following in my fathers footsteps who was a long standing customer before me. J C Dykes will be very very sadly missed - but I wish the owners a long and happy retirement and thank the owners and staff for their excellent service."
