LUTON: Following hot on the heels of last week's fire in Kent, firefighters prevented a blaze spreading to a large B&Q store in Bedfordshire.

Crews were called to the Gypsy Lane B&Q in Luton in the early hours when stock displayed in the outside grounds caught fire.

Three engines were sent to the scene, a fire service spokeswoman said, and managed to stop the flames spreading to the building itself.

The fire was put out by dawn and crews stayed to damp down the area.
