This latest announcement is just one of the many steps British Gypsum is taking to help its construction partners build better and safer.
British Gypsum has signed the Building a Safer Future Charter as part of its wider commitment to raise building standards across the construction industry, and provide complete transparency to its customers.
The Building a Safer Future Charter, which was set up in response to Dame Judith Hackitt’s Building a Safer Future Review following the Grenfell Tower tragedy, comprises five commitments that require Registered Signatories to put building safety first. This latest announcement is just one of the many steps British Gypsum is taking to help its construction partners build better and safer.
The commitments include spearheading change and being the voice of building safety within the industry, being transparent in sharing key information with residents, clients, contractors and other stakeholders, and making safety a key factor when selecting construction partners.
The charter also calls for its Registered Signatories to ensure the safety of those living and working in high-rise buildings is central in all decision making, as well as asking them to make sure all members of staff understand their role in maintaining building safety throughout each project.
Stacey Temprell, Marketing Director at British Gypsum, said: “British Gypsum recognise that becoming a Registered Signatory is an important first step towards achieving the culture and behavioural change required in relation to the Charter’s objectives around building safety. In confirming our support as a Registered Signatory, we will now be working to ensure that we embed the principles of the Charter into our organisation’s activities.”
In Dame Judith Hackitt’s review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety, it was highlighted that there is a need for significant cultural and regulatory change throughout the entire industry. As the UK’s most trusted manufacturer of dry lining solutions, British Gypsum is at the forefront of this transition.
The Building a Safer Future Charter is just one of the many ways that British Gypsum is committed to providing complete transparency and a ‘golden thread’ of information to its customers and construction partners in order to help build better homes and places to work for future generations.
Temprell continued: “In addition to signing the Building a Safer Future Charter, we are making further improvements to ensure our product and system performance data is always up to date and accurate, so joining like-minded businesses in signing the Charter is a great way for us to demonstrate our commitment to this shift in building standards and put safety first.”
The Charter is a not-for-profit company that is being managed and developed by the Considerate Constructors Scheme to encourage the construction sector to put building safety first. It aims to act as a key mechanism to drive cultural change and action across the industry by making improvements to current practices and behaviours.
