The London Broncos rugby league team and Selco Builders Warehouse are to join forces for a major charity push this coming weekend.

The Broncos will face a Super League home clash with St Helens on Saturday 19 July at The Hive. Money raised from the day’s activities will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support – the official nominated charity of Selco, the main sponsor of the Broncos.

It is hoped that a bumper crowd will be attracted to the game, with a percentage of the money from each ticket sold donated to Macmillan. Supporters will also have a chance to donate via bucket collections on the day.

As the two teams run out for the start of the match, children from Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Primary School in Hertfordshire will be given the privilege of performing a guard of honour for the teams before taking their seats for the game, with tickets donated by Selco.

The Macmillan Information and Support Bus will also be in attendance for anyone with questions or concerns about cancer and to provide support. It will be based in the car park at The Hive outside the main entrance, both before the match and during half-time, while leaflets and cards aimed at raising awareness of the most common cancers affecting men will also be distributed.

“It’s great to be able to link up with the London Broncos to stage an official charity match,” said Helen Cooper, marketing director for Selco Builders Warehouse. “We are hoping that Broncos supporters turn out in good numbers for this huge game – and dig deep into their pockets to support a fantastic charity in the shape of Macmillan.

“We are very proud to have supported Macmillan since 2012 and have already raised more than £100,000, with a pledge to add an additional £50,000 this year. Hopefully by the end of the day we will be celebrating a great Broncos performance, and a fantastic day of fundraising for Macmillan.”

Broncos general manager Jason Loubser added: “We are thrilled that Selco Builders Warehouse are our main sponsors and delighted to support them in their fundraising efforts for Macmillan.

“It should be a fantastic day and we would encourage as many people as possible to support both the Broncos and the big charity push. It’s a great opportunity to raise cancer awareness and to get people’s questions answered by Macmillan experts.”
