Barratt Developments has renewed its contract with Jewson to be the company’s preferred supplier of constructional timber for internal partitioning throughout the UK.

The builders’ merchant offered the housebuilder a partnership based on its proven track record, professionalism and competitive pricing.

Barratt Developments has been building homes for more than 50 years and is one of the country’s largest housebuilders. With plans to build around 15,000 new homes across the UK over 2014, Barratt Developments needed a supplier that could guarantee nationwide coverage and provide a fast-reaction service.

The housebuilder has renewed its contract, worth approximately £2m, with Jewson for the third year running. The builders’ merchant will be supplying Canadian Lumber Size (CLS) constructional timber for internal partitioning of new homes to be built across the country, and in doing so, help to meet the country’s acute housing shortage.

Jon Walker, group procurement manager for Barratt Developments, said: “We renewed the contract with Jewson in January this year and we had developed a good relationship with the builders’ merchant prior to that. The main reason for renewing the contract was due to service levels. Jewson has performed particularly well over the last year and is a very professional company. As we get busier and our supply chain gets stretched, knowing that Jewson can meet that demand is reassuring.”

Ian Finnie, housebuilder sales manager at Jewson, added: “It’s our third year with Barratt Developments and we are pleased to win the contract again. Working with Barratt is very close to my heart. Having developed the business with them, I relish the opportunity to do more work for the company.”
