Jewson has become the first supplier to be awarded a Novus Property Solutions Supply Chain Pledge Accreditation, after the company was able to demonstrate its beneficial work in four key areas; environment, workplace, marketplace and community.

With over 30 offices around the UK, Novus Property Solutions offers a range of refurbishment and building maintenance services. The company works across education, healthcare, commercial and retail, local authorities and hotel and leisure sectors and specialises in both planned and reactive maintenance.

Sustainability and corporate social responsibility has always been at the heart of Novus Property Solutions. The company is a member of Business in the Community and from this, has established a clear framework to work towards improving performance and benefitting society.

The Novus Supply Chain Pledge Accreditation forms a key part of the plan, with Jewson becoming the first of the company’s suppliers to be audited and awarded under the scheme.

The builders’ merchant was able to demonstrate case study examples in each of the four specific areas.

Contributing to Jewson’s success is the crucial role sustainable building materials have to play in helping Novus Property Solutions secure its contracts. Jewson also shares the company’s commitment to training and education, offering staff and customer training at the Greenworks Training Academy, in Birmingham, as well as hosting various work placements for Novus Property Solutions.

Furthermore, Jewson’s own corporate social responsibility programme shares many of the same values as Novus Property Solutions and the merchant has helped support local communities projects through the donation of materials.

Finally, Jewson has a strong focus on reducing environmental impact – notably with an aim to achieve zero waste to landfill by 2014.

“We take sustainability very seriously and need to demonstrate to our customers that our entire supply chain is committed to working in ways that are socially and environmentally focused,” explained Kevin Rhone, corporate social responsibility manager at Novus Property Solutions.

“This is why we launched the Novus Supply Chain Pledge, as we require all of our partners to play their part. We have enjoyed a collaborative working relationship with Jewson for many years. The merchant not only fulfils the material needs of the contract, but proactively works to lower its environmental impact and provide added value support for our staff and local community projects.”

Alex Rawson, sector sales director – contractor team at Jewson, concluded: “We pride ourselves on being a collaborative partner as well as a sustainable builders’ merchant. We are delighted to have received this acknowledgment and feel our partnership with Novus Property Solutions is a fantastic example of best practice within a supply chain.”
