Jewson improving efficiencies for Yorkshire Coast Homes
Published: 06 August, 2013
Jewson has won a contract worth £1.5m with Yorkshire Coast Homes. The three-year contract will enable the housing association to improve efficiencies across its planned and reactive repair service by utilising Jewson’s Scarborough and Whitby branches for materials as well as a van re-stocking service.
Yorkshire Coast Homes is a housing association with a portfolio of 4,600 properties across the county of North Yorkshire. In 2003 Scarborough Borough Council tenants decided to transfer from the local authority to a new, independent organisation. At this point, a full improvement programme was implemented to ensure all homes met the government's Decent Homes standard.
Furthermore, at the end of 2012, Yorkshire Coast Homes brought its reactive repairs service in-house, which meant major re-organisation was required. The new contract with Jewson was crucial to ensure that during the period of change and beyond - high levels of service for tenants was maintained.
Joe Poismans, head of operational services at Yorkshire Coast Homes, said: "By utilising Jewson’s Scarborough and Whitby branches we are looking forward to improving the quality of our repairs service. As well as this we will be able to make sure we are using materials that offer best value.
Jewson has supported us every step of the way – providing additional staff on our first day going live and allowing us to hire products rather than purchasing them – saving us considerable amounts of money in the process. Our partnership has unquestionably been a true success story and a business model with which we hope to repeat in the future.”
In addition, Jewson will supply Yorkshire Coast Homes with a van re-stocking service, ensuring the right tools and materials are available for planned and on-going maintenance work. The vans will be kept regularly stocked helping to save time and ensure repair work is not hindered.
Vince Thurlby from Jewson said: “Jewson is delighted to have been selected as supply chain partner for Yorkshire Coast Homes. We have devised a bespoke solution for the organisation and are looking forward to working closely with them to deliver the improvements required while helping them keep on-going costs down. ”
