The BMF auctioned signed shirts to raise money for its new partner, the Rainy Day Trust.

BMF becomes Rainy Day Trust partner

Published:  04 July, 2013

The Builders Merchant Federation (BMF) has become the latest company to sign up to the Rainy Day Trust’s partnership scheme, and has added a very generous donation of £4,000 following its recent conference in Portugal.

The BMF, now based in Coventry, selected the Rainy Day Trust as its nominated charity for the next 12 months.

Managing director John Newcomb said: “The Rainy Day Trust has been assisting those from our industry for many years and we wanted to give something back. We are delighted, therefore, to become a formal partner of the industry charity and extend our support to those who have played an active role in our industry over the years. We were thrilled to raise £4,000 at our recent conference in Portugal by auctioning an England Shirt signed by ex-England captain and manager Martin Johnson, and a Lions shirt signed by ex-Lions player and conference keynote speaker Austin Healey. Adding this to the charity pot is a great start to our partnership.”

The BMF represents and protects the interests of merchants and suppliers to the merchanting industry and has over 336 members. The Rainy Day Trust has been assisting people from the builders’ merchant, DIY, housewares and related industries since 1843 – helping those who have fallen on hard times with annual pensions and one-off grants.

The Rainy Day Trust’s board has also recently been boosted by the addition of two trustees from this industry sector with Andy Williamson (IKO Group) and James Norton (Frank Key).
