B&Q shuts Barnsley store

Published:  01 July, 2013

B&Q’s store on Bleachcroft Way in Barnsley is set to close and be converted into a Sainsbury’s supermarket.

Grant Anderson, B&Q’s divisional director, said: “We have been in Barnsley for 32 years and it is with regret that we announce our intention to close the store.

“As our Dearne Valley store at the Corton Wood Retail Park is nearby, we believe we are well set to continue to serve our customers in Barnsley.”

The planning application will seek to lift the restriction on the building and make other changes needed before opening the new Sainsbury’s store.
