UK: The Gas Safe Register replaced the CORGI gas register in Great Britain and the Isle of Man on 1 April. As it prepared for its launch, Imperial Square in Fulham, South West London was dubbed 'Gas Street' and residents were asked to take part in a live demonstration to reveal the state of the nation's gas awareness.

Gas Safe Register had volunteers on board from both within and outside the industry. Those involved in helping raise awareness of gas safety and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning on the day included plumbing and heating merchant PTS, gas engineers from AC Wilgar Plumbing and Heating Specialists, Paul Overton - a father who lost his daughter from CO poisoning - and celebrity TV doctor from ITV's This Morning, Dr Chris Steele.

The HSE has posted the latest podcast on its website and, among other material, it features an interview with Jeff Learman, director of Stakeholder Relations for Gas Safe Register. It is an overview on why the changes took place and how they will work.

The interview runs for around five minutes and starts about two minutes into the podcast. It can be accessed on the HSE website.

Gas Safe Register filmed residents' stories and participants advice which can be viewed on Gas Safe Register's new website, under the 'learn' section www.gassaferegister.co.uk. This part of the website also invites visitors to share their own experiences of unsafe gas work or carbon monoxide poisoning in an effort to tell others how to be gas safe.
