New student residential development at Bath Spa University
Published: 19 March, 2013
Bath Spa University and Miller Construction recently signed a contract for the development of new student residential accommodation at the university’s Newton Park campus.
This is the second phase of a £70m development on the campus, which includes a new state-of-the-art academic building.
The new accommodation will consist of individual ‘houses’ for up to 10 students. Each house will include a shared kitchen/living space and en-suite bedrooms fitted to a very high standard. They will be situated in an attractive courtyard setting at the western end of the campus near to the Students’ Union facilities.
Professor Christina Slade, vice-chancellor of Bath Spa University, said: “We are lucky to have an extraordinarily beautiful campus at Newton Park. Next year the student residences and the technically highly sophisticated new academic building will both be completed, enhancing even further the quality of our student experience.”
Chris Webster, chief executive of Miller Construction, said: “We are delighted to have secured the contract to deliver Bath Spa University’s new student residential accommodation at their Newton Park campus.
“We have extensive experience in the successful delivery of student accommodation and are looking forward to working in partnership with the university to deliver first-class student accommodation which will complement their new academic building.”
Work on the residential development will begin in June 2013 and is scheduled for completion by September 2014. Prospective students will be able to view a sample bedroom and living space when visiting the university at open days on 1 June, 5 October, 19 October, 26 October and 9 November this year.
Construction of the university’s new academic building, also at Newton Park, is on schedule to be completed by spring 2014.
