COVENTRY: The Greenworks Training Academy is the first training facility in the UK to offer the newly launched Green Deal Installer (GDI) Business Support session. Available to those wanting to become accredited Green Deal installers, the business support session will provide delegates with a detailed understanding of the Certification process, and will examine the Green Deal stakeholders and consider the commercial opportunities available to Green Deal installers.
Birmingham was selected along with six other cities across England to receive a share of £12m from the Department of Energy & Climate Change to help them kick start the Green Deal in their regions. The Green Deal is the government’s flagship policy for eco-refurbishment and carbon reduction through housing efficiency and Birmingham was awarded £2.6m, the biggest single amount made to a city.
Given that Birmingham is one of the first cities to implement the strategy there will be a demand for accredited Green Deal installers to fit energy efficient upgrades, such as insulation and new boilers, in domestic and non-domestic properties.
To meet this need, Greenworks’ new Green Deal Installer (GDI) Business Support session, the first of its kind in the UK, offers focused advice and support to candidates wanting to become accredited Green Deal installers.
The one-day session will be led by an experienced advisor who will begin the session by examining the Green Deal framework and considering the different roles of the Green Deal stakeholders. It will consider in detail the different financial mechanisms and the commercial models available to Green Deal installers.
Delegates will receive documents based around Publicly Available Specification (PAS) 2030, which is the specification required for installing, managing and providing energy efficiency measures in existing buildings and is used alongside the Green Deal Financing Mechanism. Delegates will also receive a Quality Management System, which has to be developed in line with PAS2030 if candidates are planning to apply for GDI Certification.

The GDI Business Support session is a great starting point for any business wanting to enter the Green Deal as an installer linked to support all the way to accreditation.”
The Greenworks Training Academy opened in February last year and is the result of a £500,000 investment from Jewson and its sister brands Graham, Gibbs & Dandy and Minster.
