LONDON: Leading plumbing and heating merchant PTS has continued its support of golfing talent on its home turf by becoming the headline sponsor for the Midlands leg of the PGA tournament.

This year's PTS Invitational will attract 90 Midlands pros including ex-Ryder Cup star and head pro for South Staffordshire Peter Baker. Joining him will be PTS Invitational regular and ex Ryder Cup star David Gilford and last year's winner, Matt Morris from Walmley Golf Club. Also confirmed are a host of amateur players who will challenge the golfing stars over the first two days of the tournament, taking the total number of players to over 180.

Kelvin Stevens, PTS managing director, said: "The golfing fraternity is very strong within the plumbing industry and we want to continue our support in the region where our head office is based. The two previous winners of the PTS Invitational, Matt Morris and Craig Shave, both went on to win the Midlands Order of Merit, so they will be the ones to watch along with Cameron Clark from Moor Hall Golf Club who recently won the Midlands winter series Order of Merit. We hope that the sponsorship from PTS and our suppliers; Baxi, Stelrad, Bristan, Tywford and Inta will increase awareness of the fantastic sporting talent and golf courses that are available in the Midlands."

Jon Sewell, PGA Midland secretary, added: "We are pleased that PTS has decided to become our headline sponsor for the third year. They are a long standing partner of the Midlands region and are dedicated to driving the game forward. It is one of the most significant tournaments for golfing professionals in the UK, so we expect to see some real talent and a gripping competition."

The PTS 'Invitational' will unfold over three days on the 8, 9 and 10 June at the South Staffordshire Club, near Wolverhampton with the all the action shown on Sky Sports. It will include three rounds - two pro-am rounds and the final taking place after a cut to just 30 professional players.
