PLYMOUTH: Alert staff at Perrys builders' merchant in Plympton foiled a disgruntled plasterer's attempt to defraud his former employer.
Plymouth magistrates heard that plasterer Jeremy Porter, 22 was angry because he believed he was owed wages and wanted to recoup the money. He used his former employer's company account to order building materials worth more than £600 for his parents.
Mr Porter worked for GLT Services for about a month in April before the manager decided his work was not "up to scratch" and the company held back his wages to offset the cost of remedial work, said Elaine Keen for the Crown Prosecution Service.
The company had an account at Perrys builders' merchant in Plympton where some staff were authorised to buy materials for jobs. Mr Porter went into the shop and ordered building materials to be delivered to his parents' home, but he had already left the company and the work was not authorised.
Ms Keen said that suspicious staff called the manager and the materials were never sent.
Mr Porter admitted making a false representation to fraudulently claim building materials worth £625 for his parents' home in Whitleigh. Magistrates imposed a nine-month community order under the supervision of the probation service with the Thinking Skills programme.
