LONDON: B&Q sold more than 7000sqm of artificial grass within a few weeks when it launched the product this spring.

Although synthetic grass has been around for 45 years its has been slow to take off in domestic markets in the UK and only this year made its first appearance at the Chelsea Flower Show.

Artificial turf, usually sold in 2m or 4m width rolls, is relatively easy to lay with around half of sales to the DIY market. Luxury brands retail at around £25-£30 a square metre, doubles with installation.

Not all B&Q stores stock artificial turf and supplies are patchy due to unexpected demand this summer.
