NORTHAMPTON: Travis Perkins, one of the UK’s leading builders’ merchants, is pleased to announce that it has successfully raised a grand total of £8000 for two charities, Children’s Hospice UK and Breast Cancer Campaign, following its Charity Sportsman Evening on 5 March.

The evening, held at the York Racecourse, was organised by Travis Perkins to generate awareness of the charities and raise money for them through the evenings’ activities including a charity auction of sports memorabilia and a raffle of top prizes donated by the sports stars and Travis Perkins suppliers.

Over 340 people attended the event with winners of the sports memorabilia auction walking away with items including a Sugar Ray Leonard glove that sold for £450 and a signed Torres shirt that went for £500.

Simon Wardle, regional director at Travis Perkins commented: “The evening was a resounding success with entertainment from comedian Tony Gerrard and attendance from sporting stars Chris Kamara and Frank Bruno, everyone had a great night. We’re extremely pleased to have raised £8000 for the two charities but we wouldn’t have been able to make it happen without the great support provided by our suppliers.”

To further support the two charities, a team of 40 people from Travis Perkins are planning to raise even more money by competing in the ‘Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge’ which involves a gruelling 25 mile circular walk, trekking to the three highest peaks in Yorkshire.
