tesa, which supplies masking and adhesive tape, has sponsored a major competition run by the Scottish Association of Painting Craft Teachers.

SAPCT is now in its 64th year and brings together painting and decorating students and lecturers from colleges across Scotland to compete at different colleges annually. At the end of last month, around 40 apprentices descended on Inverness College to compete over five hours in two painting and decorating events.

tesa provided rolls of Precision® low tack masking tape for the competitors to use in the two events, and the winners in each category received a bundle of tesa Precision® Masking Tapes.

The craft competition, which saw second year apprentices compete in pairs to complete a range of practical tasks, was won by apprentices Russell Smith and Liam Conlin from City of Glasgow College.

In the advanced craft competition, Inverness College UHI modern apprentices Gatis Celmins and Jenny Taylor, took first place and second place respectively.

Mark Mitchell, Painting & Decorating Lecturer at Inverness College UHI, said: “The SAPCT annual competition is a great way for students to test their skills against their peers across the country.

“The Association is very proud of the high level of enthusiasm, commitment and practical ability shown by all the competitors on the day. “

“We would like to thank Steve Plastow, Greg Perkins and Donna Smith at tesa UK for all their help and support. tesa’s sponsorship of the SAPCT event offered some of the most talented young decorators in Scotland the chance to use an excellent product that I’m sure they will seek out in the future.”

Greg Perkins, Key Account Manager, Craftsmen Trade for tesa UK, added: “Our association with SAPCT has allowed us to contribute to the successful careers of future professionals.

“It was encouraging to see so many talented students taking part in such an established industry gathering and we were delighted to be a part of it.”
