LONDON: The Federation of Master Builders called for more 'certainty and clarity' on British housing policy.
Brian Berry, the federation's director of external affairs said the house building sector is currently in crisis and in desperate need of help from the state.
He said less than half the amount of homes needed to satisfy demand in the UK is being constructed, and called for the government to kick-start the housing market with new forms of investment.
Mr Berry cited the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors that 12% more chartered surveyors noted declining rather than increasing workloads in the final three months of 2009. Funding is urgently required to build social housing, Mr Berry said.
