Following a £1 million investment, a new builders’ merchant branch has opened in Morpeth, creating jobs for 11 people.

James Burrell has been trading for more than 140 years, and the new branch in Coopies Lane Industrial Estate is its ninth.

To celebrate the opening, staff hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony which was attended by several suppliers.

Customers were also invited to come and view the new products and introductory offers.

The new 7,800m² facility includes a new trade counter, warehouse and yard.

Products on sale include building and timber products, as well as landscaping and roofing supplies.

Sales Manager Kevin Dawson said: “We’re delighted to have opened our latest location in Morpeth, which represents a significant commitment to the region.

“We’ve been warmly welcomed by the local trade so far and we’re privileged to serve a wider Northumberland customer base through this new branch.”
