LLANGEFNI: Huws Gray leaves the buying group NBG today.

Terry Owen, managing director, Huws Gray said the company needed growth and flexibility that the buying group could not provide. Huys Gray turnover has doubled every five years from £7m in 1999 to £59m last year and the buying advantages of NBG played a key role achieving this growth, he said.

Allan Durning, chairman, NBG LLP said: "Obviously we are sad to see John (Jones) and Terry leaving NBG but we fully understand their reasons for leaving. As NBG grows bigger, we have to maintain our discipline of not opening up in overlapping geographic areas and of full deal compliance. Huws Gray wants to grow and expand their business which is what independents do and they want to do so while being fair to the other partners."
