We are retained by one of UK's leading TIMBER MERCHANTS & IMPORTERS of TIMBER PRODUCTS who due to continued success in the UK market place are seeking to recruit an experienced OPERATIONS MANAGER to support their Managing Director in ensuring that all production requirements are reached and despatched accordingly and ensure that all operational, administration, and all H & S, HR and business controls are adhered to.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • All HR related matters including contracts, any disciplinary issues, inductions, employee development, organizational planning, recruitment, staff appraisals.
  • Ensure that updates are regularly obtained from Government organizations with updates and changes that are relevant to the employers industry in any legislation regarding employment law and H & S in the workplace, and maintain a working knowledge.
  • Attend Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) seminars and read professional journals.
  • Lead in house training with manager and employees about health & safety issues and risks. Evaluate team and organize training where necessary.
  • Monitor all H & S risks and hazards, and be responsible for all safety inspections & check policies and procedures are being properly implemented.
  • Prepare H & Safety strategies and develop internal policies
  • Outline safe operational procedures which take into account all relevant hazards
  • Carry out and ensure all risk assessments are up to date and signed.
  • Action and record all incidents , accidents and near miss reports
  • Ensure all staff are aware of procedures & relevant H & S Data
  • Design , implement and develop initiatives and systems to ensure best practice
  • Regular inspections, to ensure that all employees are wearing correct and full PPE, all stock is being stored correctly and general housekeeping is being adhered to.
  • Train and evaluate team, organize product training where necessary
  • Formulate and regularly review production and pricing policies for merchandise , according to profitability
  • Ensure compliance of business controls.
  • Always ensure compliance with all Company Health & Safety legislation.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required

  • Patience & diplomacy
  • Negotiation skills to convince managers of the need to implement and maintain safety standards that may compromise speed or efficiency in the organization.
  • Knowledge & experience in employ law & Health & Safety in the work place
  • Ability to understand and analyse complex information and present it simply and accurately.
  • Ability to engage, motivate a team.
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Diligent with a fine attention to detail
  • Good Numeracy & Literacy Skills
  • Excellent relationship building skills
  • Experienced working in a pressurized environment
  • IT literate including Word and Excel
  • Positive attitude and outlook
  • Ability to multi task
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal in order to explain H & S process and give presentations when necessary, and to be able to address any HR matters in a calm and professional manner.
