A nationwide music competition judged by Howarth Timber was won by Manchester quartet The Covasettes.

The Fallowfield based band beat 600 other entrants to Local Music Live and will now play a set at the Audio and Radio Industry Awards in October, along with the likes of Grammy award-winner Gregory Porter and BRIT award-winners Kaiser Chiefs.

They have also won the chance to record a track in Red Wall Studios in Greater Manchester and film their own music video.

Songs were uploaded online by entrants and judged by a panel including employees from Howarth Timber and Building Supplies, which sponsored the competition.

Marketing Manager Gavin Knowles said: “We’re pleased to have been able to sponsor Local Music Live again this year, and to have played a part in providing The Covasettes, as well as the rest of this year’s entries, with a great platform for future success.

“On behalf of Howarth Timber, I’d like to thank all of this year’s entrants, and congratulate The Covasettes on the start of what will no doubt be a successful music career.”
