A major capital project has delivered larger premises and given a builders merchant more space to showcase all of its products and offer improved customer service.

H&B Development Group member JTD Building Supplies’ old site in Meltham had no yard and was located on a steep hill, making both deliveries and collections difficult.

The warehouse was also too small to showcase all of the stock and grow a successful collected offer for its customers.

The new 1.9 acre site is in Holmfirth, Huddersfield, less than two miles away from the old one. It has a substantial yard and custom built warehousing, allowing JTD to stock and sell a greater range of products, providing customers with greater levels of customer service and dependability on stock.

JTD has also improved its fleet, with additional vehicles such as an 18 tonne crane offload supplementing the existing fleet.

Founder and Managing Director Tony Sharkey says he is looking to ensure that the company will always offer to its customers the best of next-day delivery or even same day if possible.

He credits JTD’s success to his team of 15 dedicated employees and being bold enough to get into new markets such as roofing, which he believes is underserved in the area. He also believes that gaining membership of the H&B Development Group has significantly improved his purchasing power and the management of vital rebates into the business.

The new branch will be open for business on Monday (30 July).

H&B Managing Director Allan Durning said: “Tony and the team reflect what is best in this new breed of young merchants, and were the first development group member to sign up with H&B, securing competitive pricing and advantageous rebates to help grow the business.

“JTD is becoming a gold standard for deal compliance within the development group and we congratulate it on its endeavours.”
