A group of budding entrepreneurs have won a national award, with the help of shower manufacturer Roman.

The team of Year 8 students from Barnard Castle School, in Country Durham, were mentored by Roman as part of the Future Business Magnates Competition. They received the marketing and branding award for their plan to create hydrogen from natural resources to fuel agricultural machinery.

The competition aims to build enthusiasm in young people and introduces them to the basics of starting and running a business. Teams from schools are supported by a business partner from a local firm, who guides them and helps them develop their plan.

The business plan developed by the students created hydrogen from natural local resources to fuel agricultural machinery.

Each team participates in a series of six challenges which encompass team building, product design, marketing and finance.

Roman helped Barnard Castle School the students over the year by attending each challenge and advising them. They also visited Roman’s Headquarters, where they were introduced to each department and shown the manufacturing process.

David Osborne, Managing Director of Roman, said: “Barnard Castle School worked extremely hard on their product idea and to win the Marketing and Branding Award is such an achievement.

“The team’s enthusiasm and eagerness to learn was inspiring to see and it has been a great pleasure to help and guide them through their various business challenges, and we congratulate them on their well-deserved award.”
