Julia Evans, Chief Executive at BSRIA, has been awarded an OBE for services to the construction industry.

Evans joined BSRIA in 2014 and has campaigned to raise awareness for issues such as energy efficiency in the built environment, and wellbeing.

Evans is a Governor of the Leeds College of Building and will soon be taking up Chairmanship there. She is a Board member of the UK International Women’s Federation, and spent three years as the Chairperson of the Trade Association Forum promoting best practice for trade associations.

She said: “I am honoured to receive this award which in every way is a reflection on the hard work and efforts of my colleagues at BSRIA, and of the wider Built Environment sector.”

Several other members of the construction industry were honoured, including:

• Professor Denise Ann Bower, Professor of Engineering Project Management at the University of Leeds, for services to the engineering and construction industries

• Joseph Michael Martin, Lately Project Director at Queensferry Crossing, for services to the UK construction industry

• Edward Charles O'Hare, for services to the construction industry and entrepreneurship

• Kathleen May Calverley, Managing Director of The Concrete Society, for services to the construction industry

• Ms Kathleen Moore, Managing Director of Women into Construction, for services to the construction industry

• John Robert Smart, for services to the construction and property industries.
