Garden paving manufacturer, Bradstone, has supported the Institute of Quarrying by sponsoring the largest show garden to feature at the inaugural RHS Chatsworth Flower Show, held this week from 7-11 June 2017.

To mark its centenary, the Institute of Quarrying entered the ‘Quarry Garden.’ Designed by award-winning professional garden designer, Paul Hervey-Brookes, the garden garnered a hat trick of successes, winning 'Best in Show', a coveted Gold Medal and 'Best Construction' from esteemed RHS judges.

Horticultural students from Nottingham Trent University were involved in the project by being challenged to produce the initial garden concepts which Paul Hervey-Brookes then developed into a completed design. Beyond the concepts, the students continued on the show garden journey to learn about how a show garden is created, from the growing process and the origins of garden landscaping products, through to construction of the actual garden.

Andrew Singleton, Sales Director for Bradstone, comments: “To be involved in this project is a real privilege to us. Not only does the Quarry Garden aim to convey to the public how efficient quarrying can be, it also fosters young talent by supporting local students on their horticultural journey.

“It has been great to be able to once again partner with Paul Hervey-Brookes who has produced a number of wonderfully creative award-winning gardens using all manner of Bradstone products.”

600mm x 600mm EcoPave® Textured flag paving in Grey Fleck has been used throughout the garden. Originating from Charcon, the commercial hard landscaping division of Aggregate Industries, EcoPave® incorporates uniquely formulated Cornish aggregates to optimise performance, durability and the aesthetic appeal of granite.

In addition, Eco Countryside® Kerb (also from Charcon and likewise replicating the look of natural granite) served as the garden edging. Being manufactured here in the UK from 82% recycled or reclaimed material content, it boasts excellent environmental benefits and is highly durable. This means that the garden, which will be reconstructed at the National Memorial Arboretum following the show, will retain its premium finish for the long term once in situ at its new home in Staffordshire.

Andrew adds: “It was fantastic to see the finished result at the show and it will be a real honour to then have the garden installed as a permanent fixture within the National Memorial Arboretum, where the quality and durability of Charcon’s products will truly stand the test of time.”
