General Building Plastics won the Midlands Family Business of the Year Champions 2017.

The Rugeley family business, a supplier of PVC building products to the trade and DIY sectors, picked up the Award at a ceremony in London last week that was attended by all the finalists in the national Family Business Awards that are organised by Family Business United (FBU).

GB Plastics has six branches across the Midlands, and has grown to a £4million annual turnover business. Now in its second generation, Janet Sutherland who continues to work in the business, with her son Alan, and daughters Wendy Hill and Clare Falls founded the family business in 1990.

Director of GB Plastics, Wendy Hill, said: “The Awards were a fabulous evening, and it was great to see the diversity of businesses there, and be part of a really great variety of family business from across the UK, and amongst such amazing winners.”

FBU is an magazine and resource centre about the family business sector. Now in their fifth year, its annual Family Business Awards recognise the diversity, strength and depth of family firms across the UK and seek to highlight the contribution that family firms make to the UK economy.
