GRIMSBY: Generous hearted members of the Rotary Club of Gloucester have donated a variety of items including clothing and bedding to the Salvation Army’s Hope House in the city of Tallinn, Estonia, where thousands of homeless people are fed during the winter.
The Rotary Club then approached Rowlinson Timber to help them solve the problem of transporting the four large pallets of gifts to Estonia. John Bate, managing director of Rowlinson Timber said, “Many people connected with the Softwood Industry know that we have strong business links with Estonia where our sister company Baltic Connexions is based. As importers and traders of softwood carcassing, we regularly charter our own ships and arrange transport throughout Europe so we were only too happy to play our part in such a worthwhile cause by transporting the gift pallets to Estonia in time for Christmas."
Captain Daniel Henderson, the regional officer of the Salvation Army in Estonia reports in an e-mail, 'I have received the shipment of clothes, toiletries, gifts and sewing machines. I have divided it up between Hope House and other Salvation Army centres to be distributed to the poor and needy. Please pass on our grateful thanks to everyone who has been involved, particularly Rowlinson Timber for shipping it right to our door, in enabling us to bless both children and adults and to make Christmas 2009 very special for so many'.
