A Howarth Timber and Building Supplies apprentice has put his money where his mouth is by taking part in a sponsored fast to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Dylan Remnant has fasted during the hours of daylight for the past month to raise funds for a charity close to his heart, and admits it’s been a physical and mental challenge.

Mr Remnant, who works as a plumbing and heating apprentice at the firm’s Rochdale branch, has raised more than £200 following donations from colleagues, family and friends.

He said: “I chose to fast for a month as an original fundraising challenge, and to really push myself. It’s been tough, especially during the first week as my body adjusted, and during the last week I felt my energy levels plummet.

“My colleagues at Howarth Timber have been extremely supportive during the challenge and I’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity of their donations. Everyone has been touched by cancer in some way, and my choice to raise money for Cancer Research UK was following the loss of a very close family member to the disease.”
