St Albans-based builders' merchant Buttle's has joined the London Stock Exchange Group's list of '1,000 companies to inspire Britain in 2016'.

The list features UK-based companies with turnovers of between £6m and £250m, which have most outperformed the average growth in their sector.

To build the list, financial technology company Duedil combined key financial performance indicators and sector benchmarks.

Each company's average annual turnover growth rate is calculated over a three-year period. Any company with over 20% deterioration in net assets over that period is excluded.

Buttle's managing director William Naylor said that the company's growth has continued in 2016. "It's gratifying to be recognised by the London Stock Exchange, which understands the importance of SMEs like Buttle's to the wider economy,” he said.

"We owe our success to an excellent and committed workforce, and to the continued support of our suppliers and customers."
