Fourteen W. Howard employees have raised £2,800 for local charity the Wigan and Leigh Hospice by undertaking a gruelling cycling challenge.

The staff cycled 60 miles from Manchester’s Old Trafford football ground to the South Promenade in Blackpool.

The W. Howard team decided to support the Wigan and Leigh Hospice as one of its fundraising activities for its nominated charity of the year. The hospice provides specialist care for more than 1,000 local people every year who are at the end of their life. It was selected by staff to benefit from various charity events that the business organises each year.

Over 5,500 participants joined the event to raise money for charities throughout the UK.

W.Howard’s group chief executive, Jonathan Grant, said: “The team originally set out to raise £1,400 for this cause, so to almost double that amount is a real testament to their fundraising and cycling efforts. The ride is no stroll in the park and we are very proud of our staff who have taken on the challenge to support this important local charity.”
