Builders merchant invests in cloud computing

Published:  27 July, 2015

Builders merchant JT Atkinson & Sons has commissioned internet services provider Netplan to develop a cloud computing platform for an initial 36-month period, in a contract worth approximately £400,000.

Netplan’s ‘hybrid cloud’ package includes private cloud computing for guaranteed performance and platform availability. Business continuity and disaster recovery are to be delivered via Amazon Web Services.

Billing for the contract commences immediately, Netplan has said, with build and deployment already underway. The contract value will be delivered over an initial 36-month minimum term and includes professional services and consultancy.

Netplan says that the exceptional sector knowledge and experience of its merchant team, as well as its extensive knowledge of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) application itself is driving momentum.

The company also claims that it is fast becoming the predominant supplier to the ERP sector following its acquisition of cloud-based software provider to builders' merchants Q4Ex in 2014.

Mark Atkinson, IT director of JT Atkinson & Sons, said: “Following a review of IT strategy, we are mindful of the growing demands of the business and our ever increasing reliance on our IT infrastructure. With this in mind, we are certain that this contract with Netplan will prove to be an excellent solution for JTA and we look forward to benefiting from its undoubted experience and professionalism in this sector.”

Arthur Duffy, managing director of Netplan, added: "Netplan is delighted that JTA has engaged with us in the provision of its fully managed hybrid cloud solution. We believe that our total solution is unrivalled in this sector, we bring exceptional experience in moving the key application to the cloud and deliver this from a wide ranging basket of cloud solutions. We look forward to assisting JT Atkinson & Sons in its ongoing growth plan."
