Cricket fans at the Birmingham Bears’ NatWest T20 Blast match with Lancashire Lightning at Edgbaston this Friday (17 July) will be invited to take part in the Selco Golden Duck Challenge, with tickets to the third Investec Ashes test match the winners' prize.
The Selco Builders Warehouse ‘hook-a-duck’ competition will see 20 pairs of tickets for day four of the third Investec Test Match between England and Australia at Edgbaston up for grabs.
The activity is the brainchild of Warwickshire County Cricket Club’s official partner Selco, the official shirt sponsor of the club’s NatWest T20 Blast and Royal London One-Day Cup shirts.
The builders merchant has raised more than £200,000 for its nominated charity, Macmillan Cancer Support, over the last three years and will be continuing the fundraising push at Edgbaston on Friday.
People attending Friday’s match will be given the chance to ‘hook’ a toy duck – with £3 donated to Macmillan for one duck or £10 for four, with all proceeds going to the charity.
Anyone who catches a toy duck bearing a gold label on its base will win a pair of tickets for the fourth day of the Investec Ashes Test Match at Edgbaston, staged on Saturday 1 August.
Dougie Brown, Birmingham Bears and Warwickshire CCC director of cricket, said: “We’re expecting our biggest crowd of the season at Edgbaston for Friday’s NatWest T20 Blast match against Lancashire Lightning and I am sure that plenty of supporters will try their luck in the Selco Golden Duck Challenge.
“The third Investec test match is a huge sporting event and England have a great record playing here at Edgbaston. Hopefully the competition winners will witness another famous England victory.”
Helen Gemmell, marketing director of Selco Builders Warehouse, said: “There is no bigger sporting event in the UK this summer than the Investec Ashes Series and we are thrilled to be able to make tickets available for cricket fans across the Midlands.
“The hook-a-duck activity will be an extremely fun way for people to try to win tickets for the 3rd Investec Ashes Test and the 20 people that do will have a very exciting day at Edgbaston to enjoy for their sporting summer.
“Everyone at Selco is committed to raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support because cancer touches us all at some time or other, and we are very grateful to Warwickshire for their support in enabling us to host this charity game.”
Bucket collections for spectators’ contributions to the charity will also be held around the ground during the match.
