One lucky employee from GPH Builders Merchants scored an extra day’s holiday after taking part in a workplace raffle in support of Cash for Kids on Superhero Day.

Staff at the builders’ merchant donned their favorite superhero costume to give Northsound breakfast DJ Greigsy competition, when he pitched up at GPH’s Inverurie branch dressed as Superman.

After an intense drumroll, DJ Greigsy picked accounts administrator Ann Matthews’ name out of a hat, after staff contributed £5 to enter their names into a draw to win an extra day off work.

The Northsound Superhero Day was part of a nationwide fundraising drive to raise money for Cash for Kids, a charity that supports children in local communities. A grand total of £438.79 was raised on the day.

GPH was the principal sponsor of the event, and staff at all three branches in Inverurie, Westhill and Stonehaven got into the spirit, with various competitions including ‘the squeaky clean joke competition’, ‘the superhero quiz and word search’, ‘guess the baby’, and finally ‘the fancy dress parade’.

Nikki Mortimer, sales and marketing director for GPH, said: “It’s a really exciting time for GPH as we recently opened our Stonehaven branch, and our new website is ready to go live in the next few days. Sponsoring this local charity allows us to give back to the community. As a local independent merchant, our customers are generous and supportive and we couldn’t do this without them, this is our way of saying ‘thank you’.”

Ms Mortimer continued: “Our staff really went to town and there were some great outfits on the go. The highlight was DJ Greigsy picking the winner of the extra day-off work competition, which had generated significant interest throughout the company.”
