Elliotts, the independent supplier of building products for the trade and public, has been handed a prestigious business award and is shortlisted for another trio of gongs.

Managing director, Tom Elliott, was presented with Hampshire Chamber of Commerce’s Southampton Business Success Award on Wednesday 20 May. The award, which has been running for the last three years, recognises successful businesses in the city and has previously been won by ABP Port of Southampton.

Elliotts has also been shortlisted for three other awards. The first is in the ‘Lakesmere Growth Business of the Year’ category for the South Coast Business Awards. The company has seen strong growth across all areas of its business over recent years, even against the backdrop of the recession and a long economic recovery. In the last year it has increased its turnover by 29%, opened three new branches and boosted its employee numbers by 26%.

The second shortlisting is in the Family Business United awards, which recognise the very best family businesses across the UK. Completing the hat-trick of shortlistings is Elliotts’ entry in the PwC Private Business Awards in the family business category.

Mr Elliott said: "Being a family business is a big part of our identity and we’re delighted to be shortlisted for these two family business awards. Our customers tell us the fact we’re a family business is a real strength because it means we can react with much greater speed and agility than our competitors. Additionally, being shortlisted for the Lakesmere Growth Business of the Year Award means our customers know they’re buying from a company that’s in very strong shape and ambitious about its plans for the future. Confidence in suppliers is incredibly important and this award shortlisting, coupled with our long heritage, gives our customers precisely that.”
