PDS directors take on gruelling cycling challenge for charity

Things are heating up at PDS in preparation of managing director Tim Fairley and commercial director Pat Rice’s participation in the Granfondo Stelvio Santini Challenge.
On 7 June, 2015, the pair will be cycling over the Teglio, Mortirolo and Stelvio Passes in Northern Italy to raise money for Springhill Hospice, Rochdale. The hospice provides specialist palliative care for people with life-limiting illnesses. It is an independent charitable organisation and relies on voluntary contribution in order to keep the doors open.
No strangers to charity fundraising, PDS recently became established business buddies of Springhill Hospice. This year the company is going all out in order to raise as much money as possible for the hospice, which will help contribute to some of the excellent work they do within the local community.
Mr Fairley and Mr Rice will be travelling to Northern Italy to take part in the gruelling challenge of cycling over two of Italy’s highest mountain passes in The Granfondo Stelvio Santini. They will start at Bormio in Northern Italy and will finish at an altitude of 2758m at the top of the Stelvio Pass, travelling via the Teglio and the Mortirolo (1727m), covering 151 km and a total ascent of 4058m. The Stelvio Pass is the highest paved road in the Eastern Alps and climbs for over 24kms through some 48 hairpin bends.
They have been training hard for the event over the past few months, regularly embarking on 5am cycles before work and weekend cycles across the Pennines. Both are keen to be on top form for the event in order to ensure they cross that finish line in good time and represent the company well.
PDS has set a target to raise £10,000 and so far is about half way to achieving this. The company is relying on as many of their suppliers, customers, friends and colleagues to get behind them in this demanding challenge to raise as much as they can.
If you would like to support Mr Fairley and Mr Rice through this challenge, donations can be made directly to Springhill Hospice via its Just Giving page - https://www.justgiving.com/PDS-TheUKDoorAndWindowCompany.
