UK: Judy Lowe has been appointed as deputy chair of the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) from 1 October 2009 by Kevin Brennan, minister for further education, skills, apprenticeships and consumer affairs.

She has held key strategic advisory positions in the construction industry, as well as BP, Amoco and Glaxo SmithKline, and other multi-national companies.

Sir Michael Latham, chairman of ConstructionSkills, commented: "We are delighted to welcome Judy on board – she has a very strong background in business, training and construction, and her considerable knowledge and expertise will help us to continue to drive forward with our core mission; to ensure 'right skills, right place, right time' for the UK construction industry, while working effectively with our partners and stakeholders.

"Her acute understanding of the political climate we currently find ourselves in will help us deliver our short-term goals of today and our longer-term goals of tomorrow, and she has the full-backing of a dedicated team."

Ms Lowe will replace Peter Rogerson OBE. He has held the post since April 2001.
