A successful day for John A Stephen's team at Practical Building Skills Challenge

Published:  08 November, 2012

UK: The Institute of Builders' Merchants’ fourth Practical Building Skills Challenge Event proved to be a very close contest with only one point between the winning team (Karl Smith, Liam Bradshaw, Kevin Clarke & Gareth Hatcher from JA Stephens) and the runners up (Ashley Grey, Graham Kemp, Tim Kelleher & Tim Slack from Travis Perkins).

At Derby College on October 24, teams from Travis Perkins, EH Smith, Didac, JA Stephens were challenged to:

  • Build a brick & block wall
  • Hang a door & fit associated ironmongery
  • Plaster & skim
  • Paint up a symmetrical design

Thanks go to the Institute’s Charitable Trust, Builders Merchant Training Trust and the Worshipful Company of Builders Merchants for sponsoring the event and to Travis Perkins, Ibstock, British Gypsum, John A Stephens, EH Smith, Ridgeons and Sterling Hardware for supplying the materials.
